Position Overview:
Open English seeks an experienced Learning Analyst to join our growing Academics team.  The focus of this position is to provide data, reporting, statistical analysis and recommendations which will help inform our understanding of student learning, provide evidence for improvements to teaching and learning, and identify ways to better engage our students.  The Learning Analyst will work with the Academic team on projects that sit at the intersection of technology and pedagogy.  This person will have a firm grasp of data collection, statistical analysis, and visualization techniques as well as an understanding of learning theory.  The position is full-time and based in our Bogota, Colombia office. 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Analyze large-scale data sets
  • Develop and evaluate predictive models to identify key factors that contribute to student success
  • Work closely with the Academic team to develop a system of reports, metrics, and visualizations to support evidence-based decision-making resulting in improvements that enhance student engagement and promote efficiencies of learning
  • Support the Academic Quality team by assisting with survey design and guiding efforts toward ensuring the validity and reliability of instruments in use for assessment of student learning
  • Create reports and queries in the Company’s visualization tool for use by the academic team
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in learning analytics, data science, statistics, educational measurement, or other relevant field that uses quantitative data analysis.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated experience in the management and analysis of data.  Five (5) years of experience developing learning analytics design plans preferred.  OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
 
Skills Preferred:
  • English proficiency
  • Understanding of learning theory
  • Knowledge of data warehousing technologies and data mining computational methods
  • Demonstrated knowledge of one or more statistical processes such as R, SAS, or SPSS
  • Training and experience in educational research
  • Background in statistics, ideally in the social sciences
  • Experience using various forms of learning analytics tools and processes to inform learning analytics design plans and design strategy, such as Social Networking Analytics (SNA), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Educational Data Mining (EDM), Predictive Analytics, and Adaptive Analytics
  • Experience applying psychometrics and learning outcomes assessments
  • Experience with visualization tools
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail, thoroughness, and follow through
